Follow Your Camper And Their Activities During The Summer Of 2007 At CampTimanous!
| The weeks are just
flying by now! Monday morning, two groups of 13 campers and 4 counselors
left on camping trips. The first group left with canoes in tow
and headed for Lake Aziscohos on the Maine/New Hampshire border. Their
first night was spent at the northern end of the lake before canoeing
the second day half way down the lake. They spent 2 nights at the middle
camp sight where they hiked up Lincoln Pond stream and then canoed
to the southern end of the lake to Beaver Island for the last night. Before
returning to camp on Friday, they hiked Aziscohos Mountain. The second
group had a long drive to Acadia National Park where they spent 2 nights
in one of the park's campgrounds. On Tuesday, they biked the extensive bike
paths in the National Park and Wednesday morning, they took a very early
morning trip up Cadillac Mountain which is the first place in the United
States to see the sun rise. This week's trip pictures can be seen
here. Back at camp, with 34 people out of camp on trips, it was quieter during meals but not less busy. Tuesday evening, campers with relatives at Little Wohelo went there for dinner and evening activities and on Wednesday, those boys with relatives at Big Wohelo did the same thing. Thursday before lunch, we watched them launch the rockets they had worked so hard on the week before. Some of them went out of sight for a few moments before exploding and spinning back down-- it was very exciting. Friday afternoon, with everyone back in camp, we had "Friday Trips". There was a sailing trip and war canoe trip down Panther Pond and a hike up Rattlesnake Mountain. Saturday morning, a group of 46 runners (campers and counselors) and 10 "waterboys" headed to Casco, our neighboring town, to participate in the annual 4 mile Casco Day Road Race. It's a tough course with a long hill and it was a hot day but everyone ran great. To qualify, the campers had to have run at least 15 training miles but most had run far more than that. The biggest incentive is the great food at the end of the race -- fried dough, french fries, and Seadog Biscuits to name just a few of the favorites. Everyone got back to camp in time for a dip and lunch. Individual pictures from the race can be seen here. Saturday night was our Point Cookout - an all camp cookout on Crow's Point. The Mallards start the procession, stopping at each cabin to pick up the next group and marching in single file to Crow's Point. The Crows made a human arch for us to travel through and managed to stay in position while singing the Crow's song as the entire camp passed through. The dinner of barbecued chicken, corn and "buttered buns" was delicious. In addition, there was a 15 & under tennis match, a 15 & under archery match, a 13 & under baseball game and a 15 & under soccer game. It may have been our best week of weather this summer. Lots of sun and actually getting quite hot at the end of the week. This week has started out much the same. We are now starting our last full week. Many boys are trying to finish up awards and projects they have been working on this summer. There are many events still to come including Beach Day and Junior Granddaddy Gorilla which is the reverse of the game we played earlier this summer. This time, the campers have to hide. Many of the boys have been looking for the perfect spot during their free times but it's hard to find a place the counselors haven't already tried themselves. |
