Week Five

(Please be patient, there are lots of pictures this week)

This week marked the half way point of our summer. Our second half campers arrived on Monday and after a brief orientation period, quickly got into the camp routine.  Also on Monday, 12 campers and 4 counselors headed out on a 3 day camping and biking trip at Acadia National Park. On the second morning of their trip, they woke very early to drive to the top of Cadillac  Mountain - the first spot the sun rises in the United States.  On Tuesday, another group of 12 campers and 4 counselors started out on a 3 day trip to Baxter State Park with the highlight being the hike up Mount Katahdin, Maine's tallest mountain. They all made it!!

This Friday's Trips included a sailing trip down the lake, a hike up Rattlesnake Mountain, and a Touch Football tournament.

Saturday afternoon, we played "Granddaddy Gorilla" which is an all camp hide-and-seek game where the counselors hide and the campers try to find them.  The counselors are worth different number of points if found and the cabin with the most points wins.  Some of the counselors will stop at nothing to keep from being found including covering themselves in mud, climbing high into trees, and contorting themselves into all kinds of uncomfortable places.  The "Granddaddy" was not found this year!  The campers are now looking for their hiding spots for "Junior Granddaddy Gorilla". (Don't worry - the rules for camper hiding places preclude high trees and other dangerous locations!)

The new in-camp running path has been completed -- it is a one-mile loop which starts on the back road by Falcons, goes by the Barn, around the field and back again. It has been very busy in the early morning, before the rising bell. Quite a few campers are logging many miles - some in anticipation of the Casco Day Road Race.

It was a busy week for inter-camp competitions with  15 & under, 13 & under, 12 & under and 10 & under baseball games, 15 & under and 12 & under tennis tournaments, a 15 & under Volleyball match, a Riflery match,  2 regattas and a 6-on-6 soccer tournament.

The weather has continued to be picture perfect -- sunny & warm but not the uncomfortable heat some of you have mentioned.  We have had very little rain but did have a big thunderstorm Wednesday night which woke most of us up as it lasted for several hours. This coming weeks looks to be much the same.
