| A total of 43 campers and counselors ran on
Saturday. Everyone did a great job - their pre-race training really paid
off. Unfortunately, I didn't get everyone's picture - some were too fast
or hidden by another runner. |

| Council Fire is a difficult thing
to photograph due to the time of day and the size of the group. Hopefully
these pictures will give those of you who haven't been able
to attend a Sunday Council Fire an idea of what it is. This ancient tradition
is both symbolic and practical as the circle of campers signify unity,
the pulling of the rope to turn the spindle requires cooperation, and the
fire itself is an endless symbol of eternal light and warmth. The
ceremony is a summary of the weeks' accomplishments by the campers who
stand briefly in recognition of their achievement. Promoting our
positive approach to discipline, counselors publicly commend campers
for acts of kindness, helpfulness, courage, etc. Council Fire is
a nice ending to a busy week. |
