Summer 2009

Week Six

You can see from the pictures that it is still pretty wet here which makes for soggy feet but great frog catching! The sun did come out on 3 different days this week and by Wednesday afternoon, after 2 sunny days in a row, we thought we were starting to dry out but that night, the skies opened and it rained hard all evening so we continue to have streams in places we usually only see in early spring. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes and noseums thrive in this weather.

Three camping trips went out this week. On Monday, The "Five Day" headed to Lake Aziscohos in northern Maine and the Backpacking trip went to the White Mountains. The third group left on Tuesday for Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor where they spent Wednesday biking the parks extensive trail system. Pictures from the Trips.

Phil Mulville, a former camper and counselor, who is currently with the Maine Lake Conservancy brought his floating classroom to Panther Pond on Friday. The pontoon boat is equipped with an underwater robotic camera, microscopes, and other interesting equipment. He took 2 groups out in the morning but the weather didn't cooperate and the afternoon trips had were postponed when again the heavy rains came. Luckily, Phil is able to return this week so everyone should get the chance to explore the lake.

Saturday morning, we had a fun intra-camp swim competition and that evening we had our annual "Point Cookout" when the whole camp goes to Crows Point for a delicious meal of barbequed chicken and corn on the cob.

Timanous campers participated in a tennis tournament at Camp Agawam and sailing regattas at Winona and Acadia.

With only a week and a half left of camp, we are really getting busy. Today, the whole camp is going to the beach and luckily, the weather is cooperating. The extended forecast is predicting great weather for the end of camp!
