Although the week started out wet, we are now on our 5th beautiful sunny day! The lake is incredibly high and there are puddles in places we don't normally see them but it is wonderful to see everyone out in shorts and tshirts rather than raincoats! Summer is here! I think the rain has almost been totally forgotten but it actually never seemed to dampen the spirits of the campers. Perhaps that's because in the cooler, rainy weather, we didn't have instructional swim!
The week started out with more rain although we couldn't believe there was any left. It absolutely poured on Wednesday - raining all day with incredible downpours at times. It left the lake higher than we ever remember for July. Many of our docks are almost underwater and our ski dock, located on Crow's Point, almost floated away. But Thursday morning dawned sunny and it finally began to really feel like summer..
Three cabins (Cardinals, Ravens and Loons) left on their camping trips, to see pictures, click here.
The annual book fair occurred after lunch on Tuesday. Our local Borders bookstore brought hundreds of books to camp, setting up their "store" in the barn. The boys spent a lot of time choosing and they were each allowed to purchase 2 books. Now, you will see several of the boys walking around camp with the book in hand, reading as they walk.
We had a planned visit by the American Camping Association on Thursday. Every 3 years, we go through a review process to maintain our ACA accreditation. We need to meet over 300 standards covering our facilities, staff, and program - many of which require written documentation. We are happy to report that we passed with flying colors. The visitors were impressed with how friendly, helpful and outgoing our campers are. It is something we hear often from visitors.
Friday afternoon, we finally were able to play our first game of "Capture the Flag" and it was exciting. The whole camp is divided between the Green team and the Gray team. You can see from the pictures that the boys can come up with great ways to show their team spirit.
Saturday afternoon, they played a Gary/Green soccer match.
Saturday evening was Cabin Cookouts and the Mallards (the youngest campers) joined the Crows (the oldest cabin) at their cookout site.
Sunday evening, we had Council Fire outside followed by the burning of the bonfire.
Please remember that this coming weekend, July 18 & 19th, we will have our weekly Council Fire on Saturday afternoon at 3:30. There will be no Council Fire on Sunday and we expect all campers to be at the Council Fire on Saturday.
