Summer 2009

Second Week

The first full week of camp started out wet and it remained pretty damp and cool until Sunday! We kept busy with lots of activities but we are all glad the sun finally came out.

Sunday at lunch time, the counselors performed their "Twilight League Skits" to announce the always cleverly named Twilight League Names. Every boy on camp is placed on one of the softball teams. It's just for fun and the games are played in the evenings. Ask your son what team he is on. To name a few: Thoughts from Earl, One Eyed Pirates, The Badest Team, and That's What I Do.

Monday was the first day of sign-ups. Each boy chooses his morning activities after breakfast and his afternoon activities after lunch. In addition to the sign ups, we usually have instructional swim, a free swim and a free time most afternoons when many activities are open and the boys can move from activity to activity if they would like.

Just before lunch on Monday, the first laundry went out. It was returned after lunch on Tuesday.

Wednesday evening, we had our first, ever popular "Jimmy Buffet", an all you can eat buffet where everyone sits outside.

Friday afternoon, we were able to sneak in "Friday Trips" in between showers. A group climbed Rattlesnake Mountain and had a great view of Sebago Lake and Panther Pond. Another group took a long sail on Panther Pond while other groups played various games on the field.

Saturday morning, we built the 4th of July Bonfire. We knew it was unlikely we could burn it that night as the ground and wood were so wet but the torrential down pours that afternoon clinched the deal also making it too dangerous to play our first scheduled Capture the Flag game.

We were thrilled to wake up to sun on Sunday morning -- one of the only sunny days so far this summer. We were even able to have Council Fire outside Sunday evening.

Three cabins, Crows, Herons, and Eagles went on their camping trips (click here to see pictures from the trips) . The Hawks were also suppose to go but we postponed it as that day, the rain was torrential.
