Saturday & Twilight Teams

Saturday started as another beautiful summer day. After breakfast and cabin cleanup, the campers continued with their orientation.

At lunch, before the announcements, the counselors announced this years’ Twilight League Team names with crazy skits. The Twilight League is our evening softball league. Every boy in camp is on a team and half the fun is the crazy team names. This year’s teams include: Where’s Ebbs?, Timanavengers, Shack Gnomes, Level 5, Hippos, Barn Jousters, No Eyed Deer (took me a while but based on the fact the counselors had “no idea” for a name), Bravehearts. The games are played during free evenings and will probably start on Monday.

The afternoon was a repeat of Friday with thunderstorms again interfering with the schedule. This time, however, the rain stayed with us, forcing us to have our usual Saturday night cabin cookouts in the barn.

Camp Survives the First Snow Storm

A freak fall snow storm hit New England this weekend. We were headed to camp but driving became pretty dangerous so we didn’t get to see it for ourselves. We heard from a reliable source that once again, camp was lucky! About 4″ of snow fell which although unheard of for October, was less than we got in Massachusetts and unlike so many places, there was no damage. We were not so lucky in Southborough where we were without power until today (Tuesday morning). Hoping everyone else was as lucky as camp.

It was a beautiful fall day today.  Unfortunately, many of the leaves had already fallen with last week’s wind and rain and some trees hadn’t changed color yet, but the colors were still great.  Ben Motley was busy getting the Freedom ready for winter. The video shows pictures taken today.

New Row Boat

Before all the boats were put away for the winter, Dave took the new row boat for a quick spin. A group of campers made the boat in woodshop this summer and it had it’s maiden voyage at Water Sports. It’s a great and exciting addition to the Timanous fleet!

Hurricane at Camp

We were very lucky! Irene blew through camp and certainly left her mark but there was no major damage. Many trees came down, two of the most noteworthy are the two big pine trees on Crow’s Point – right at the very end. Another came down across the rifle range and did some minor damage to the roof and railings. Numerous trees came down behind the Wood shop but no buildings were hit. There are limbs and small branches down everywhere – a great start to next year’s bonfire!! More pictures have been posted on the Shutterfly site. We can only hope the rest of the Timanous family fared as well.

End of Camp 2011

It was almost fitting that it rained on our final day, just as it had on Opening Day despite the fact the rest of the summer, we had fantastic weather! Luckily, the rain was light and it was fairly warm (at least for those of us who weren’t swimming) for Water Sports. We were thrilled to have so many family members and friends join us both for Water Sports and the evening activities but we were sad to have the summer come to an end as it was truly a magical summer with a very special group of campers and counselors. We are now looking forward to 2012!

We are always looking for ways to improve our program and would really appreciate your comments and suggestions.

There were a handful of pictures taken that have been added to Shutterfly. If you took pictures that day, it would be great if you could upload them to the site (members should be able to do that).

The clean laundry came back right after breakfast and the campers took it right down to the cabins. There was an extra long cabin clean up so everyone could pack their trunks, tag their belongings and clean their areas. Once the packing was done, there was time for activities giving some boys the chance to put the finishing touches on their shop projects.

This afternoon we had practice for Water Sports in preparation for tomorrow. I think we are all having a little trouble believing that camp will be over very soon. Tonight we gathered to watch a movie produced this summer by campers and counselors — it was very clever and funny. That was followed by our annual slideshow which recaps the whole summer and brings back lots of great memories. After that, everyone headed to their cabins to get ready for the big day tomorrow.

Monday

Monday was predicted to be a rainy day but it was another beautiful, hot summer day. There was an extra long clean-up so everyone could empty out their trunks and gather all of their laundry for the last laundry. Many campers struggled carrying their laundry bags up as it looked like the bag weighted more than the camper!

The final Capture the Flag game took place after cabin clean up. The counselors did not play in this round. There was a lot of great action, very exciting but no score!

The annual Fastest Man contest took place just before dinner. The race is one length of our playing field and there are 3 classes: Lower Bunkline, Upper Bunkline and Counselors. It was a great showing with a lot of very fast runners.

During the free evening, the Twilight League Championship game took place with Wohelo’s Favorite Team playing Udder Madness. Another exciting game with Udder Madness winning 5 to 3.
