Camp looked great this weekend!  The colors are beautiful although its probably a week away from the peak foliage.  The great weather we had all summer continued this weekend although it was quite a bit cooler with temperatures in the high 30s in the mornings — anyone for a morning dip?

Robert has been working hard on the new Aides cabin and plans on completing it before the end of the year. The cabin is part of the new Aides program which we will be instituting next summer.  The new program will  include a camp service component as well as the traditional counselor training.  The Aides will spend part of the summer living in camper cabins and part of the summer living in the Aides cabin.

Another beautiful day – I really think this summer is a record breaker for the number of perfect summer days!  Lots of cleaning and packing going on this morning but once that was done, the activities were open and  some people were able to finish up a final award or project while others just enjoyed their last regular day at camp.  The laundry came back after lunch and the bags were really full as the boys had been asked to empty their trunks and send everything to the laundry in hopes of sending home clean trunks!  The campers had practice this afternoon for tomorrow’s Watersports.  During this afternoon’s free time, the rifle range was open for “plinking” and the equivalent at the archery range  — your son can explain it if he went.

After dinner, we will all gather in the hall for the Slide Show which is a great way to look back over all that has happened this summer.  The slide show will be available for viewing tomorrow afternoon so if you are here, make sure to see it.

The Last Laundry

The bell rang a little later this morning as we had a buffet breakfast which was open from 8 to 8:40.  There was a long line of hungry campers when the doors opened but many campers did take advantage of the late sleep, wandering up close to the end.  At morning announcements, the crowd cheered loudly when it was announced we would be playing Capture the Flag.  There were 2 very exciting games with the first ending in  a tie and the Greens winning the second. Free swim after the game felt great as what had started out as a chilly morning, had become pretty hot by mid-morning.

This afternoon was a normal schedule until 5:30 when everyone gathered on the field to watch or participate in the the annual “Fastest Man Contest”.  It consists of 3 races, one for the lower bunkline, the upper bunkline and the counselors.  It’s a sprint the length of the ball field — we have a lot of really fast runners.

After dinner , the Conductors and the Wrecking Crew played the final Twilight League Game with the Conductors winning 8 to 7 in a very exciting game.

The Fastest Men!

The horse races last night were a lot of fun. The counselors are the horses, dressing in a theme and costume of their own choice — some of them show a lot of imagination. You’ll have to ask your campers for an explanation!

It was pretty chilly this morning and sweatshirts felt really good! Everyone spent extra time cleaning their trunks and getting everything in the laundry bags for tomorrow’s laundry in preparation for the final pack. We had a great chapel talk by one of the head counselors who encouraged us to “take Timanous with us” when we all go our separate ways.

The "Horses" at the Starting Line

Things are happening so quickly now, it’s hard to keep up. The music show Thursday evening was great. There is a lot of talent at this camp! It was difficult to photography but luckily Sandy was able to get some usable pictures.

Friday was a really fun day. The entire camp was split into 4 groups and they rotated through the activities: Timanolympics (with such events as the javelin (an arrow)), Slip n’ Slide Kickball, Tubing and Free Swim. All wrapped up in time for Friday Candy followed by free time.

Today was a normal Saturday with lots of choices in activities. Many boys are finishing projects or trying to complete the necessary requirements for awards. It was cabin cookouts this evening and now everyone is in the hall for “Horse Races”. Will try to post pictures later but going to catch the last few races right now.

Today was noticeably cooler than the past few days and our blankets will feel good tonight but it was another glorious day.

A group of campers had the opportunity to visit Maine’s “Dr. Doolittles” , Steve Crone and Leo Joost of New England Dog sledding where they were able to get up close with llamas, horses and sled dogs.
